As if there weren’t already enough financing challenges for growing businesses, Sam Thacker of Business Finance Solutions calls attention to another : The National Association of Credit Manager’s (NACM) Credit Manager’s Index for May fell for the first time since December 2009. President Obama renewed calls last week for Congress to pass a $30 billion package to encourage small business financing . According to John Tozzi of Bloomberg BusinessWeek , the plan would provide funds to banks that cater to small business and direct $2 billion to state lending programs, where states put up cash as collateral for small businesses seeking loans. As a freelance copywriter, I watched clients past and present deal variously with a year of ‘interesting times’: One client terminated a chronic poor performer, so he could keep his better staff. A second gave accounts payable to his wife – who paid my invoices twice as fast! A third saw contract termination as a happy excuse to knock on different doors
