In the era of traditional Transpiration Management Systems (TMS), a company buys packaged software by paying an upfront license fee and deploys the software on computer platforms within their own enterprise, being responsible for the general technical support of the application. Over the past few years, we have come across variety of terms like hosted solutions, ASP (application service provider), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).

As staffing industries remain challenged to grow their revenues, their focus areas have also shifted to reduce their back office costs continually, streamline the business process through automation, front to back office integrations and integration with VMS systems. I don’t know if I could be happier that it’s Friday. Then again, I don’t know if “happy” is the right word. I have had an emotionally exhausting week. I met with my attorney earlier this week and he pushed me to allow him to hire a private investigator to look into matters. He thinks it might be possible that Steve is the father of Becky’s baby. Great. Try explaining that one to a 10 year old kid. Honestly–I would not put it past him at this point. Work has been hellish. That’s why I haven’t really been able to get my blog on too much. Sarah called in a lot this week–which totally sucks because Rachel is on leave. Also–got a call from Rachel at home last night. She was seriously asking me what people are saying about her and her cancer. How professional to put me in that position. All I have to say is that I plan to have a quiet weekend–I might even leave the phone off the hook

The staffing industry has seen a huge swing towards recruiting professionals from varied streams such as Finance, Sales, Engineering, Information Technology, and Management. While this trend provides myriad opportunities for growth, it also brings a unique set of challenges that include Customer Retention & Serving new industries; Applicant loyalty, soaring operational cost due to disintegrated systems in usage; high percentage of manual effort involved in the process of matching the right people with the right job that prohibits a quick response to the customer for an order, and integration of the business processes across geographies.

1) Cash Flow 2) Cash Flow 3) Uncertainty about health care (and how this will affect cash flow!) Every day I scan the headlines and read the news affecting America’s millions of small business as they work tirelessly to emerge from this country’s worst recession in recent history. And, while I’m encouraged by the recent spate of news and commentary showing reports of tempered optimism I am dismayed by the ongoing lack of credit flowing to small business

The recession for most of us feels like a part of our history. We are experiencing economic anomalies right now, having undergone a recession caused by the banks, and trying to skirt around a possible second dip recession caused, in Europe, but ‘the countries’. As Greece slips deeper into debt, even the stronger European nations are regarded with hesitation when it comes to their own economic stability. But what does this mean for shared services?

Determining the number and composition of the extended accounts (Flexfield structure in Oracle) has been a topic of debate and angst amongst GL architects. A “ Fat GL ” design as the name implies contains a very large number of journals, often containing information that would typically be required for operational management reporting and typically containing minimal summarization. A Fat GL creates a very large number of “account combinations” and journal lines.

I kept my word. Well–kind of. When Sarah called me into her office this morning and asked me what was up with Josie, I told her it was just some “personal stuff.” She seemed okay with that, as long as all the cubicle melodrama was over with. I couldn’t resist asking about the fact that Josie had it in her head that she was supposed to be promoted, though. The look on Sarah’s face when I asked: PRICELESS! She actually looked like she was about to cry at first. She has a little problem with confrontation. Anyways–what she told me is also priceless. Being the finance dept in an investment firm, we have auditors in from Finra every year. We provide them with a spare office. One day a few months ago, (in the middle of one of these audits) Josie was instructed to bring some documents the auditor requested to the spare office. She walks in without knocking. She promptly runs out, screaming and spilling papers everywhere–straight to Rachel’s office

I left off yesterday telling you how I was going to have to have a one on one with Josie–she’s been crying and carrying on in her cube all week. I should add a little background first. I gave a pretty harsh description of Josie in a previous post . I mentioned that her husband cheats on her and I should let you know exactly how I came to be in possession of that lil tidbit of knowledge. When Josie first started, we were kinda cool. We would talk and take lunch together every now and then. I even invited her over to my house for a passion party that my sister, Sophia was hosting. Sidenote on Sophia: she has a wild side. We had a good turn out–about 20 of my friends, family and co-workers showed. The problem started when Josie got more than a little tipsy

Meeting in the ladies room
Yeah–I need to get a grip. I feel like I am running on empty and it’s not cool. I have to keep it together for Josh and that means keeping it together emotionally and professionally. It seems like every single day something happens–the gods are conspiring against me–well as long as they keep me on my toes, I guess… Okay–so the meeting yesterday was weird to say the least. It was me, Sarah and one of the Finance Dept Controllers. We’ll call the Controller “Lauren”. I have to say I am pretty shocked that Lauren is pretty much acting like Rachel won’t be back. I think it’s twisted and sick. Either they’re assuming she’s gonna die or they’re just trying to push her out. Talk about kicking a dog when she’s down. There was no talk whatsoever of my and Sarah’s promotions being temporary. They even moved Sarah into Rachel’s office. Which is just fantastic because now I am stuck in the cubes with the whining, moaning and gossiping bitches from hell–except for Maggie–although since she’s been acting so weird, the jury is kind of out on her. Speaking of the bitches from hell, Josie has been sitting in her cube switching between moping and crying all week. She thinks no one can tell, but there’s not much you can keep secret in the cubicle jungle. I guess I will have to make it my priority to ask her what’s up now that I am supervisor. I’ll pull her to the side this afternoon sometime

Come 2011 and there would be a major transformation in the manner Indian companies present their profit and loss accounts and balance sheets. 2011 is when it becomes mandatory for them to adopt International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) What is IFRS — International Accounting Standard Board (IASB) has issued principles based pronouncements comprising of standards and interpretations which are popularly known as IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards). — Replaces existing Country specific Accounting Standard which are rule based — IFRS compliance is not just accounting change, its impact will be on all entities connected with an organization including shareholders and employees

Okay–I have to be fast today–meetings, meetings, meetings–PLUS I swear everytime I look up someone is at my cubicle and I don’t want this lil bloggy-blog to be exposed–it’s all I have! I got home yesterday to a mess! SOMEONE aka Steve broke in! He broke a pane of glass in the door and got it open. He went through everything and just threw stuff all over. I guess he got his clothes, laptop and firewire drive where his precious novel is stored. He left a note on the dining room table telling me to call his mother to “set something up” so he can see Josh. Set something up???? Are they gonna “do lunch” too?? I can tell you it will be a cold day in hell before I call Roxanne—Steve can figure it out–I am not gonna be his personal assistant anymore–scheduling visitation with his child! I am so mad. And I still don’t know where the jerk is staying. If he thinks for a minute that I am letting our child visit him at “the other woman’s” house–he has another thing coming! I have a meeting in 20 minutes–but Sarah already prepped me. Since Rachel is out indefinitely–Sarah will be acting manager and I will be acting supervisor–with another pay raise–even if it is temporary. I know it comes under sad circumstances–I feel bad–but I guess I am a single mother now and I could use the money. With all the meetings around here—everyone in accounts payable is nervous. They hate to see a closed door! They always assume they are about to get fired. No matter how many times you tell a person that they have to be doing something wrong to get fired–it never sticks. Ha–maybe because they are all doing something wrong. Like talking shit ALL the time.

I’m not thrilled and admit that I’m in a fairly pissy mood. This morning I received an email from one of the senior marketing managers blaming Finance for not paying an outstanding invoice from last September 2009; that Finance has reassured the vendor on numerous occassions that there will be a cheque cut for the remaining oustanding invoices.

Blame Finance
So after a few days having a “missing” husband–who mind you left with the clothes on his back–no extra undies or anything–I started to wonder where he was. He didn’t call to see his kid–or even to get a change of clothes. I had hoped to avoid it–but I realized I probably needed to call the enabler extraordinaire, my mother-in-law, Roxanne. I had put off calling her because she basically blames me for everything! The blame isn’t totally out there–she’ll listen with a sympathetic ear–clucking in a motherly way in all the appropriate parts of the story–but her response is always to make some sort of excuse for Steve. Me: Roxanne, I caught Steve with another woman–in OUR bed.

So I went out to lunch today with Maggie to tell her the news about my “promotion.” I wasn’t supposed to say anything–but I figure my office bff has a right to know before they announce it at the next dept luncheon. To tell you the truth, I’m really not sure how she took it. It went a little something like this: Me: So–I have some news. Rachel and Sarah wanna promote me to team lead. Maggie: What???

The WSJ today reports that “Nearly 3000 small U.S. banks could be forced to dramatically curtail their lending because of losses on commercial real-estate loans, a congressional inquiry concluded.” This flies in the face of all that we keep hearing about the millions of dollars that are going to be channeled to U.
