I still remember the days (nearly 10 years back) when I was first applying for my H1B visa, it still gives me creeps to think of the whole process – from filling up the form to going for an interview at the Consulate for that one small sticker on your passport called Visa. It felt bigger than giving your Final Engineering Exams – at least I felt so back then

High Speed Internet Connectivity in India might as well be called an Oxymoron.Despite the larger than life claims from the Service providers, the broadband speeds have been rather sub standard or even if they deliver on the speed , the uptime and the pricing negate the effect. We keep pondering over why E-Commerce has not taken off in India , and one basic answer lies in the below par connectivity. The service providers are upbeat about their plans and they market their seemingly Fastest Broadband connections like there’s no tomorrow.Risking generalization, i think its safe to assume that most of us have complains from our Internet Service Provider. So, when MTNL announces a whopping 20 Mbps broadband speed , one wonders if someone out there is actually doing something about it.Before we get into the details, here is the new plan as proposed by MTNL for its new broadband connection .

3G Auction Delayed,Yet Again The Indian Government seems to have lost it way with the much awaited 3G auctions. If the Department of Telecom(DoT) is to beleived , the official 3g auctions might get delayed by a more than a month and start around the first week of March.DoT is yet to finalise the Notice Inviting Applications. The 3G hype has been doing the rounds for quite sometime but it got delayed on a regular basis.India despite being one of the largest growing telecom network, is still waiting in wings to have access to the 3G network.More than that, the spectrum being offered is one of the lowest too

Yes, both these words share common initials, but in reality there is huge gap between India and Innovation. In past decade India has become a hub for outsourcing (specially in IT), and has shown some outstanding growth in fields like Telecom. But this post is specially for Internet Startups where all the action is happening today (both locally and Internationally)! I have recently started my startup journey and have experienced some fake expectations and harsh realities in past one year.

It might sound hard to digest but the United States has agreed to help India predict and track the monsoons better by providing imagery from its satellites. The advanced satellite images will help India track the monsoon changes with a greater degree of certainty. The US has agreed to provide India with imagery from its satellites on weather patterns over the Indian Ocean and the subcontinent that will allow scientists to predict rainfall 15 days in advance. At present, Indian scientists can predict the monsoons only one-and-a-half days in advance. It will also supply India a supercomputer that can analyse and interpret the satellite images.

Google has recently announced the favourite places on Google, a project that enables and merges offline and online interactions for local businesses. It works as follows: the 100,000 local businesses in US, handpicked by Google, get stickers containing QR codes that they can display on their doors/windows/menus. When a potential customer scans the QR code using his mobile camera, which has a QR code reading application installed, the QR code is converted into a URL (the URL of the business page on Google Maps places) and the browser displays the page from that URL that contains information about that place like user reviews and ratings , coupons and hot deals etc

It all started with one mission for Google “Organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful ” and the motto “Don’t be Evil” . In short, they always wanted to provide all of world’s information at fingertips and that too for Free ! But then who cares about such mission statements and mottos of any company. But Google is probably one of those chosen companies which is almost able to deliver what it had promised! And in achieving this it has become huge- in fact “God-like” .

Most of the start-ups as well as established companies in internet space primarily targets US audience. This is understandable as US Online Advertising market stands at a whopping USD 24 billion and is at least four times bigger than the second largest market that of UK. In developing countries, it’s a rarity if an internet company gets funded, and most of the start-up visionaries here are not very bullish when it comes to internet space.
