India registers highest quarterly GDP growth in 2 years – Expects 9 % Growth going forward After couple of years of recessionary phase – India is back on a fierce growth path. Last Quarter’s GDP growth of 8.8 percent is highest since December 2007, when Global economies tumbling following the Lehman Brothers debacle. The Industry leaders along with Assocham as well as CII are quite hopeful that India’s GDP will witness 9 percent growth for year 2010-11.

In fact, there is difference of opinion among various analysts. Some say that the new DTC Bill is nothing but old wine in a new bottle , while other says that the government might try to recoup revenue shortfall from DTC from the proposed GST regime

Blackberry finally bows down to Indian demand – Offers FULL access

Research in Motion, maker of BlackBerry have finally bowed down to Indian Governments demand to allow access to their messaging system – RIM will provide full data access to the Indian authorities. To be honest, I did not think that the outcome will come out today – I was thinking more on the lines of delay of another 2-3 weeks. However, Indian Authorities have got their way.

The deadline given by Indian Government to Blackberry has arrived, and at-least as of now, no real solution seems to have emerged. It is very much possible that Indian Government may actually give an extension to RIM, the company behind Blackberry. However, I wanted to discuss the possible scenario’s that are on the table right now – specially from the Blackberry and their users point of view.

Indian female Mobile Web usage lowest in world! [Opera Report]

Mobile Web Usage is overwhelmingly dominated by Men – 96 percent of all to be precise. According to latest Opera State of Mobile Web report , only 4 percent female users use Mobile web lowest in the world. Even countries like Nigeria (5.4%) have more Female Mobile web users.

Punch! Here comes Bharti Airtel’s first salvo from its acquisition of Zain Group’s mobile operations in 15 countries across Africa. In a lethal competitive move, Zain Kenya has announced a deep cut in tariff charges in a bid to capture new subscribers and drive the big volume growth business in the highly under-penetrated African markets. Kenya’s second largest operator Zain has moved to halve its voice call tariffs and cut the price of text messaging by 80% across all networks, in a bid to gain market leadership in Kenya’s 20 million mobile phone market.

After Google Wave, the end of Orkut is nigh?

Google’s social networking initiatives seem to be in a complete free–fall and now the killer nail in the coffin could has been hit. Orkut which has always been successful only in the Indian and Brazilian markets, had over the past year or so stagnated in its growth. According to latest figures (July 2010) by the comScore report, Facebook has finally surpassed Orkut to become the number 1 social networking site in India.

Are Indian Mobile handset brands giving their foreign counterparts a run for their money? [Telecom Tuesday]

Micromax, Lava, Spice, Zen, Karbonn and many other Indian handset brands are making more than a mark in the market today. They have together occupied more than 14% market share . The best part for them is that this has been at the cost of certain brands specifically Nokia losing its market share by more than 12% over the past year.

This has happened earlier than expected – I have just come across this photo and thought I would share it with the readers. Its been around 3 weeks since the New Rupee Symbol was launched – It seems our Mint has got into action and came up with a design (hopefully) of the New 10 rupee coin.
